An executive order directs the Department of Homeland Security to use federal records, including the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database, to help verify the citizenship of registered voters. The Supreme Court this week allowed states to resume using the expanded SAVE database to check voter rolls while litigation over the program continues. States' use of the program is voluntary.
